Frequently asked questions
Does having home care result in a loss of independence?
No. Our belief is that independence is being in control of your decisions. Having in home care services means being in control of your activities and retaining as much independence as each situation allows. Many of our clients just need a little help to continue living a safe and productive life while some might be recovering from a fall or surgery, or other condition. Regardless of your situation, our goal is to enable you the best possible outcome while being in control of your care and daily decisions.
How can I trust a carer in my home?
Just like nurses and doctors, Carers have chosen a career in compassionate care of those in need. Stella Care implements a screening system which includes comprehensive background checks. All applicants must complete criminal record checks and have two references. They then undergo full training and a 12 week induction programme during their probationary period to ensure they meet Stella Care’s high standards.
What if we don’t like our carer?
We understand that not everyone gets on with each other. If you are unhappy with your carer contact us. The matter will be resolved sensitively and confidentially and we’ll refer another carer to you.
Will I always have the same carer?
For you to receive quality care and support, we understand that it is important to be cared for and supported by staff who know what your needs, expectations and wishes are. We will provide you with a small team of carers that will understand your care needs.
This will ensure that you have enough cover when your carer has holiday and that they can get to know you and understand what is important to you.
What is the process of starting care visits?
Stella Care will discuss with you your individual requirements and the range of services we are able to provide for you. This will be the first step and we will arrange a visit with you.
One of our team will visit you in your home, or in hospital if necessary, and will write an assessment with you. This information will form part of your care plan which explains how we will be able to support you to achieve your care, health, and wellbeing goals. We will discuss with you a time and the length of the visit.
Once you have agreed for Stella Care to provide you with care and support, you will be asked to sign the care plan and sign that you give us consent to provide you with the care and support as planned.
Before your service starts, we will make sure you know who is coming to provide your care and support, your care plan will tell them what they need to do when they visit you. We will also explain to them what your needs and wishes are.
